Plagiarism Policy and Academic Integrity

Advances in Science, Engineering and Society, published by NK Publishers, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical scholarly publishing. The journal Advances in Science, Engineering and Society applies strict policies to prevent plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct in accordance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations on Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions, 2018 (as amended).

Advances in Science, Engineering and Society adheres to the principles and best-practice guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)  with respect to plagiarism, self-plagiarism (text recycling), duplicate submission, and redundant publication.

Similarity Screening and Threshold

All submitted manuscripts undergo mandatory similarity screening prior to peer review.

  • Maximum acceptable similarity: ≤ 10%, excluding references, quoted material, and standard exclusions

  • Screening tool: iThenticate plagiarism detection software (Crossref)

Similarity reports are evaluated both automatically and through editorial judgment to assess the nature and context of overlap.

Exclusions from Similarity Assessment

The following are excluded from similarity calculations:

  • Properly quoted material with appropriate citation

  • References, bibliography, acknowledgements, and footnotes

  • Common technical terminology, standard methods, and discipline-specific phrases

  • Author self-citations, when transparently disclosed and correctly cited

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their submissions. Prior to submission, authors should:

  • Properly paraphrase, quote, and cite all sources

  • Clearly disclose any overlap with previously published or submitted work

  • Submit only original manuscripts not under consideration elsewhere, except for disclosed preprints, theses, or conference papers

By submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author confirms that the work is original, complies with the journal’s similarity requirements, and meets accepted standards of academic integrity.
